August 10, 2008 Ms. Wheelchair Nebraska is Nebraska's premier event to celebrate the accomplishments and the abilities of women who use wheelchairs. Their mission is to provide an opportunity for women of achievement, who use wheelchairs for community mobility, to educate and advocate for all individuals with disabilities. Women who compete for Ms. Wheelchair Nebraska 2009 must be between the ages of 21 and 60, and utilize a wheelchair for 100% of their daily mobility. An ability to communicate with the public, government agencies, local businesses and organizations is a key element of the competition. Marital status is not a consideration. During her reign, she will be traveling across the state, promoting disability awareness, sharing her personal experiences as a disabled woman, and discussing current events and issues related to all disabled people. Lorinda will compete in the national Ms. Wheelchair America competition, to take place in the Washington D.C. area in July 2008. She will be raising funds for her travel expenses and her entrance fee to compete at Nationals. Lorinda is also available for speaking engagements.
