Ms. Wheelchair Nebraska Program Seeking Contestants
Lincoln, NE – August 15, 2008 – The Ms. Wheelchair Nebraska, Inc. Board of Directors is currently accepting applications for contestants to compete in the 2009 pageant. The pageant is set for Saturday, November 1, 2008 and will be held at the Interstate Holiday Inn in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Ms. Wheelchair Nebraska is Nebraska's premier event to celebrate the accomplishments and the abilities of women who use wheelchairs. Their mission is to provide an opportunity for women of achievement, who use wheelchairs for community mobility, to educate and advocate for all individuals with disabilities.

Women who compete for Ms. Wheelchair Nebraska 2009 must be between the ages of 21 and 60, and utilize a wheelchair for 100% of their daily mobility. An ability to communicate with the public, government agencies, local businesses and organizations is a key element of the competition. Marital status is not a consideration.

If you are interested, or know someone who is interested in competing in the fall pageant, please contact the Ms. Wheelchair Nebraska program. Applications are available through the website, or State Coordinator, Crystal Childers at (402) 499-6949. All applications are due before October 1, 2008.

Ms. Wheelchair Nebraska 2008 crowned in Grand Island
Lorinda Brown was crowned as Ms. Wheelchair Nebraska 2008 on October 13, 2007. The ceremony took place at the Interstate Holiday Inn in Grand Island, Nebraska . Lorinda is currently living in Grand Island with her three children and is self-employed as a writer.

As Ms. Wheelchair Nebraska 2008, Lorinda will act as an advocate and educator on behalf of the disabled community. During her reign, she will be traveling across the state, promoting disability awareness, sharing her personal experiences as a disabled woman, and discussing current events and issues related to all disabled people.

Lorinda will compete in the national Ms. Wheelchair America competition, to take place in the Washington D.C. area in July 2008. She will be raising funds for her travel expenses and her entrance fee to compete at Nationals. Lorinda is also available for speaking engagements.
